TRIO Selected a Winner in the 37th Annual Telly Awards

Edmonton, AB, April 20, 2016 – The Telly Awards has named TRIO as a bronze winner in the 37th Annual Telly Awards for their piece titled ‘Innovations in Oncology’. The segment was produced by DMG Productions and part of the Innovations w/Ed Begley, Jr series which airs via Discovery Channel and FOX Business. With nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor. The segment focused on clinical trials and what it means to participate in a clinical trial as a cancer patient. Viewers learned how important patient involvement in the testing of new anticancer drugs and combinations through a clinical trial is for the continued advancement of improving cancer treatments.

The award-winning segment can be viewed on TRIO’s newly launched website at www.trioncology.org within the news section. “Clinical trials are the best way to test methods to treat, diagnose, manage and prevent cancer and are essential to drug development in the cancer field,” says Myka Osinchuk, CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

“Clinical trials allow patients to have access to the best and latest treatments and it’s because of this clinical research conducted by TRIO and other bright scientific minds that cancer survival rates have significantly improved and will continue to. They are crucial to making any advancements in the medical field.”

“A patient’s contribution to clinical trials is essential in furthering cancer research and makes them true colleagues in finding new treatments that lead to cures and/or more effective treatments. This in turn will render cancer a chronic “living” disease as opposed to a fatal one,” said Dr. Dennis Slamon TRIO Director and Chief of the Hematology/Oncology division at the University of California, Los Angeles.
