Dr. Sunil Verma is a professor and Head of the Department of Oncology at the University of Calgary. He is also the Medical Director of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. Dr. Verma completed his MD and postgraduate training in internal medicine and medical oncology at the University of Alberta. He then went on to complete a fellowship in breast cancer at the University of Toronto and a Master of Medical Education at the University of Southern California.
Dr. Verma is internationally recognized for his research and education leadership in breast cancer. He is interested in developing novel therapies for breast cancer and reducing toxicities associated with systemic treatment. Dr. Verma is the principal investigator for many breast cancer clinical trials including a number of practice-changing Phase 3 trials. His work has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Cancer. He has led and created numerous innovative educational projects in oncology and has won several teaching and mentoring awards for his contributions to cancer research.
